Carl "Luke" Lucas was one of Death Match and Death Race champions, and also the first Frankenstein.
History[]
Working for Kane[]
Carl was a getaway driver which had been arrested 22 times in 20 years. He worked for Markus Kane. Totally loyal to him, however, despised the weapons and violence. When Kane sent him to help into a bank robbery, he was waiting outside the bank, but the unexpected arrival of two policeman forced him to intervene. He disarmed two cops, ordering the burglars to leave, but was forced to kill another cop. Despite his guilt, he helped escape the burglars, one of which was Kane's nephew, taking the police cars with him, until he was captured.
Gladiator[]
After his capture, Lucas keep his loyalty to Kane, refusing to make a deal. He was convicted by murder and, six months after his arrest, sent to Terminal Island Penitentiary on Terminal Island, where, despite the fact he refused to accept September Jones's orders, he had to participate in the Death Match to save his friend Lists. In the Death Match, two dangerous convicts were chosen and then forced to fight to the death or submission. He fought Big Bill, but both survived the match.
The prisoners are given access to weapons or defense items to use during the fight by stepping on a marked plate in the arena. After the decline of Death Match, the event was transformed into Death Race... ironically, indirectly thanks to him; when he drove a car for scrap through the island, September had the idea to create a race. Initially, Lucas didn't want to join the race, but at the end, he decided to race again, expecting to achieve his liberty.
Death Race racer[]
Frankenstein[]
Despite his apparent submission to Jones, Frankenstein's first act was to run over September, killing her before even begin the race.
For the next months, Carl drove as Frankenstein, winning 4 races. During that time, he kept his identity secret even to his team, to protect them, barely talking them.
Evasion[]
However, Katrina Banks's "death" was fake. In reality, both have escaped, leaving a severely wounded York replacing him as Frankenstein. Soon after, he, Katrina, Goldberg and the doctor were celebrating their newfound freedom, and Weyland paid them a huge sum of money for the revenge they have helped him to achieve.
Legacy[]
Carl's legacy as Frankenstein lasted very long. His isolated cell, to protect him from killers, became the norm for the next Frankensteins, to keep their identity secret. His behavior as Frankenstein, silent and deadly, also became the norm for his successors.
